Ramlia in the Sahara desert.

Ramlia in the Sahara desert. 55 degrees celsius was messured last summer at this place. About 28 degrees it was when i arrived there last automne. Not the best idea to cycle here in summer, but perfect in October. The piste route will go to this place only. But a paved road is in planing and the piste probable history soon.

Sahara desert Boudnip to Erfoud.

Kai made id meanwhile to the Sahara desert and was riding a 70km piste from Boudnip to Erfoud i had no time so far, but that will be part of the dirt road route 2020. In October i rode the piste from Boudnip till Merzouga, a 160km dirt road section, that will be the second extension. The standard route turns after 33km direction Erfout and follows from Erfout to Merzouga the paved road, same road as the road route.

“Paved roads” or “dirt roads”, in Morocco called “piste”?In 2020, at the 2nd Morocco Bike-Adventure you get the choice. Morocco is improving their transport infrastructure fast. This results in new good roads, still without any traffic. The road version follows nearby the piste route with the same start and finish location. Some section the two version use the same roads, where riders of the Moroccan piste route get a break riding smooth surfaces..

The Titanic restaurant.

The Titanic restaurant is located 85km after leaving M’Hamed, about halfway to Foum Zguid. Steffen and Donncha used the chance to get a good meal here. 2020 Riders will likely stop too at this place. The restaurant also has 3 rooms for staying the night. Be careful who you ask about a route out there. This year i asked some military who camped in the desert about a route to the Titanic. It was 6km away and they didn not know that there is a restaurant. In the rootbook riders will get the exact location.Since there is no paved road to this place, this is part of the piste route only.

Registration for MBA2020 is now open!

1900km till 3000km, that’s the piste route for the 2020 Morocco-BikeAdventure. Same start location at Tangier, same time, same finish location at Sidi Ifni at the Atlantic Ocean as the new road route. The 2020 route brings you trough the Rif Mountains and over the Middle Atlas straight to the Sahara desert. Explore pistes used by the famous Paris-Dakar rally.The map shows the Ultimate route with 3000km and 32’000m vertical climbing.

It will probably not always work out that you stop for the night where you find an auberge or hotel to stay. But it’s worth it to stay the night at one of these remote places, in the mountains or in the desert. You probably never have seen that many stars.

Lucky I had the storm behind me.

Working on the 2020 route and going over the photos from this October/November route scouting by bike.I could watch all day the to the pictures i made.This one is in the Sahara. The desert is an absolut stunning place, not boring at all. And yes it can rain there, not very usual.
