While working on the website I came again over this photo with Daniel in the descent from Tizi-n’Ouano 2910m, with almost 3000m altitude one of the highest drivable roads in north Africa. Steffen told me, it was one of the best downhills in his life. I waited on the route up there with my camera and the 200mm objective mounted. Without mobile access it was difficult to catch him and while waiting for him, i had a nice chat with a kit looking for the sheeps of the family up in the mountains. He was very interested about the world, about my gear, about the riders and he knew a lot. He remembered exactly the date of the early snowfall a year ago, that made it unpossible for me, to cross the pass with my bike, even i made it higher up as any car, and i had to return at about 2500m altitude where more then 1m snow was on the road. The boy had only old sandals on his feet. And after i made the last Photos from Daniel, already far down, he asked, if i have some old shoes for him. Sadly i had only the one i weard myself. But he was very happy, when i offered him a pack of chips.

Looking forward to see Donncha Cuttriss again in Morocco. He will go again for the dirt road route: “Better prepared, bigger tires and looking forward to the adventure.”Donncha is a solo RAAM finisher, 2 times Transam Bike Race, 4 times Race around Ireland.
Because of the uncertainty what our governments decide coming weeks and months, registration for the 2020 Morocco-BikeAdventure is open again till end of August. If we get any restrictions of maximum riders, it will be in the order of incoming registrations. New this year, a road version without traffic on paved roads only. Same start and finish as the piste/dirt road version.
After the Dades valley the route goes over the Jbel Sarhro, a mountain range of volcanic origin. After the route leaves the Dades valley, it offers a great view to the High Atlas mountains. This section was already part in the last year Morocco-BikeAdventure and will be an extension coming October.
Aouli mines near Midelt. These abonded mining buildings get new live in the last years. The section to the Aouli mines is the first desert section trough very impressive landscapes. It will be again a checkpoint for the Morocco-BikeAdventure 2020 dirt road route. The new road route will not come to this special place, since there is no paved road going there.

The first Morocco-BikeAdventure was 4 months ago. 8 months to go for the 2nd edition. New for the 2nd edition: a road route nearby the dirt road route with start and finish at the same places.
A paved road will replace this piste soon. 2020 edition only the dirt road route goes here, where once also the Paris-Dakar rally came along. Many awesome pistes in Morocco disappear. Don’t say i go for it 2021, it could be too late.
Moroccan transport in the high Atlas. Whyle Donncha had his second breakfast in front of the auberge down there a local passing by on his donkey towards Tizi-n’Ouano 2910m (in the 2020 edition part of extension 2). You go by roadbike or gravel plus bike? Choose new between the road route or the piste route for 2020.
Ramlia in the Sahara desert. 55 degrees celsius was messured last summer at this place. About 28 degrees it was when i arrived there last automne. Not the best idea to cycle here in summer, but perfect in October. The piste route will go to this place only. But a paved road is in planing and the piste probable history soon.
Kai made id meanwhile to the Sahara desert and was riding a 70km piste from Boudnip to Erfoud i had no time so far, but that will be part of the dirt road route 2020. In October i rode the piste from Boudnip till Merzouga, a 160km dirt road section, that will be the second extension. The standard route turns after 33km direction Erfout and follows from Erfout to Merzouga the paved road, same road as the road route.
October 2019 was quite wet in Europe. In Morocco we had warm and sunny weather. This photo is from the dirt road route in the Rif Mountains heading to the Middle Atlas.
